The IOC announced the list of Russians who will perform at the Olympics - 15 people with neutral status
However, there is nothing to be surprised here, given the political events in the world. It’s surprising that these were also taken, and then with the condition that the athletes would, in fact, represent themselves, performing without the flag and anthem of the Russian Federation. The IOC ruthlessly eliminated many Russian athletes at the qualification level – Thus, the sports authorities were shocked by the absence of taekwondo fighters, although initially they were entitled to as many as three quotas. More than one leader among the judokas will not go, and then Russia refused to send fighters at all.
The largest number of Russians represented at the Olympics in Paris will be among tennis players. On the courts of the Roland Garros stadium Daniil Medvedev, Roman Safiullin, Pavel Kotov, Mirra Andreeva, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Diana Schneider will compete for medals — This is in singles. The duets Medvedev/Safiullin and Andreeva/Schneider will perform in the doubles, and Alexandrova will be joined by the winner of the gold and silver Olympic awards, Elena Vesnina. The latter has vast experience, and all attention in Paris will be focused on her, expecting an unconditional championship from Elena.
We also have high expectations from swimming and trampolining athletes. Our Zhenya Somov and Angela Bladtseva have every chance of winning medals. The 18-year-old trampoline player won the World Cup last week, so she will be a real star at the upcoming Games.
Participation in the Games 2024 will not be an easy test for our athletes – the enormous pressure they will experience will make it difficult to compete for medals. But for everyone who has dedicated themselves to big-time sports, the Olympic Games – a chance to leave your name in history, set personal records, defeating, first of all, yourself. After all, the age of athletes is so short that you need to gather as much as possible at each international competition, since there may simply be no other chance.
From July 26 to August 11, the whole world will watch the performances of famous athletes. Russians were allowed to attend only in a neutral status, not allowing them to perform with the Russian anthem and flag. Special insignia were approved for them, and they were also prohibited from participating in the parade of athletes at the opening and closing of the Olympics. Awards for Russian representatives will not be reflected in the medal table.
